Answer of FAO’s Director-General to the request of farmers´ and other civil society organizations supporting the IYFF 2014.
Being aware of the article published last September 6 in The Wall Street Journal by the Director General of the FAO, Mr. Jose Graziano Da Silva, and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Mr. Suma Chakrabarti, the World Rural Forum sent a request calling for an urgent FAO’s clarification about its mission and mandate. Mr. Graziano Da Silva was asked to reafirm his adhesion to the 37th FAO Conference’s Resolution in favor of Family Farming.
The answer of the FAO Director General has come through his office, in a message that reaffirms his commitment in favor of Family Farming and the implementation of the International Year of Family Farming in 2014, in cooperation with the organizations that had promoted the Year.
The WRF will continue working for and supporting Family Farming. The celebration of the IYFF 2014 provides a unique opportunity to obtain better agrarian policies in favour of the women and men family farmers, worldwide.
