All international members of the Board of Directors attended.
Thursday 14 July 2016 – The General Assembly of the World Rural Forum (WRF) was held in Arkaute on 1 July 2016 and was preceded by a meeting of the Board of Directors on the previous day, a particularly significant meeting since all the international members attended. Both meetings discussed the main points of the new Strategy Plan which defines the WRF’s activities for 2016-2020.
Representatives of the Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA), INADES Formation and COPROFAM took an active part in the Board meeting and in the General Assembly. A representative of the Pan African Farmers’ Organization-PAFO attended the General Assembly as a guest and an observer.
The organisation’s governing bodies decided that the International Board of Directors would meet once a year, with all members attending. Meanwhile, all member organisations would send a representative to the General Assembly once every 4 or 5 years.
Since the international representatives on the World Coordination Committee for IYFF+10 were present, we took the opportunity to hold a meeting of the Selection Committee for the project “Beyond IYFF 2014: Support for National Committees on Family Farming”. That meeting assessed the projects submitted by the NCFFs and made selections.
In recent years the WRF has expanded its membership, the General Assembly having approved the incorporation of new member organisations, such as SEWA (India), the Regional Rural Dialogue Programme (PDRR) (Central America), CONFRAS (Confederation of Farmers’ Associations in El Salvador), CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development), UAGA-Union Agroganadera de Alava (Alava Farmers’ Union) and New Zealand Young Farmers, among others.
